High Point Market - Expands Style Spotters Trend Tours for Spring Market 2019

HIGH POINT, N.C., February 19, 2019 – The High Point Market Authority (HPMA) has expanded the Style Spotters Trend Tours program for Spring Market, April 6-10, 2019. A program focused on exposing Market attendees to the wide variety of exhibitors High Point Market has to offer, Style Spotters Trend Tours has been a favorite program of Market guests for several years. Traditionally, the Style Spotters Trend Tours have been offered on Tuesday of each Market, immediately following the Style Spotters LIVE! breakfast. The tours consisted of each Style Spotter picking two of their favorite showrooms around Market and then leading a group on a tour of those two showrooms within a 60-minute timeframe. Beginning this spring, two different types of Trend Tours will be available. The Favorites Tours will follow the traditional schedule and will be offered on the morning of Tuesday, April 9, at 10:15am following the Style Spotters’ breakfast event, showcasing two favorite showrooms each during one-hour tours. Four Style Spotters will offer these tours – Shayla Copas, Cynthia Ferguson, Benjamin Johnston and Style Spotters Advisor Shay Geyer. No RSVP is required for the Favorites Tours. Category Tours will expand the program beyond Tuesday programming, offering 2-hour tours on a specific product category and covering 4 showrooms each. Two tours per day will depart from The Point each morning at 9:30am on Saturday, April 6, Sunday, April 7, and Monday, April 8. The Saturday tours will include Eric Haydel focusing on antiques and antique reproductions and Laura Thurman focusing on showrooms with a global aesthetic. The Sunday tours will include Style Spotters Advisor Gary Inman focusing on hospitality and Courtney McLeod focusing on artisan makers. The Monday tours will include Kara Cox focusing on designer-friendly upholstery and Erinn Valencich focusing on lighting trends.

High Point Market - Unveils Findings of 2018 Economic Impact Report

HIGH POINT, N.C., February 13, 2019 – The High Point Market Authority (HPMA) today released the key findings from a 2018 economic impact study that highlights the High Point Market's major impact on North Carolina's economy. Commissioned as an update to a similar study done in 2013, which calculated Market’s economic impact at $5.39 billion annually, the 2018 report updates that number to $6.73 billion annually. These findings solidify High Point Market’s standing as still the largest economic event in the state of North Carolina. In broad strokes, the report concludes that High Point Market contributes $6.73 billion in economic impact annually, 42,427 jobs, and $616 million in tax revenue across all levels of government - $202 million of that at the state and local levels. The study was conducted by the Global Value Chains Center at Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the same group who compiled the 2013 report using the same methodology. "These results show the tremendous impact High Point Market has on our local area as well as the state as a whole. HIGH POINT, N.C., February 5, 2019 — The High Point Market Authority (HPMA) has partnered with interior design professional, author and business coach Kimberley Seldon for a Business of Design™ educational series for Spring Market, April 6 – 10, 2019. Focused on the systems and procedures designers need to increase efficiency, effectiveness and profitability, each session will be geared towards interior designers looking to improve business practices. The first seminar, “Launch Projects Like a Boss”, will be an intensive study of the first three steps of Business of Design’s 15-Step Project Management Strategy, advocating for a strong start to each project in order to achieve a positive outcome. This three-hour session will take place on Friday, April 5, from 9:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. in the High Point Theatre. The cost is $295 per attendee and seating is limited. Focusing on new products debuting at the upcoming Spring Market, this multi-faceted program will give attendees a sneak peek of what to expect at the April 6 – 10 show. The New Product Premiere program will kick off on Monday, February 18, with a week-long social media focus called Inspiration Week. Style Spotters are charged with scouring the Market to find their favorite products and top trends, leaving behind a card on each item they “spot”. These finds are then posted to High Point Market Pinterest boards and contribute to the two Style Reports (Summer/Fall and Winter/Spring) that the HPMA produces. New members include Lee Boone, co-president of Home Meridian International; Jane Dagmi, editor-in-chief of Designers Today; Carol Gregg, owner of Red Egg Resources; Mandy Jeffries Minyon, president of Colfax Furniture; and Karen Olson, senior vice president of marketing for International Market Centers. Christi Barbour, founder and partner of Barbour Spangle Design, and Alex Shuford, CEO of Rock House Farm Family of Brands, will also join the board as well as the executive committee. These seven new members became official board members upon the conclusion of the October 17 board meeting, held during Fall Market. They will each serve a two-year term through 2019 and 2020 under new board chairman, Dudley Moore, president of Otto & Moore. Julie Messner, senior vice president of furniture leasing - High Point, and Michelle Jennings Wiebe, president of Studio M Inc., were recognized for their service as voting board members. Bruce Cohenour, senior vice president of Bassett Furniture, and Rod Lambeth, CEO of Tomlinson/Erwin-Lambeth, were also recognized for their service on the executive committee during their terms as board members. These four outgoing board members were presented with plaques at the October 17 board meeting at the String and Splinter. The board meeting also concluded Jeff Scheffer’s reign as chairman of the board. High Point Market - Accepting Exhibitor Donations for Hurricane Victims

HIGH POINT, N.C., October 15, 2018 – The High Point Market Authority has teamed up with several partners to accept furniture donations from exhibitors following the close of Fall Market. These donations will aid in the relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Florence in the eastern part of North Carolina. Shelba D. Johnson Trucking, Inc., headquartered in Thomasville, N.C., has donated the use of a 53-foot semi-trailer for accepting donations. This trailer will be delivered to the IMC parking lot in between the IHFC and Showplace buildings in the Market district. Exhibitors are encouraged to deliver donations to the trailer between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17, or between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, or Friday, October 19. The Barnabas Network, a non-profit furniture bank serving Guilford County, is providing volunteers to staff and manage the donation point and accept any incoming furniture from exhibitors. After all donations have been received, they will be delivered to The Green Chair Project in Raleigh, N.C. Also a non-profit furniture bank, The Green Chair Project will manage distribution of the donated items to hurricane victims in need.
